Summary:
Mixed martial arts, mma, or sometimes known as cagefighting, evolved into a contemporary, legal full-contact sport that makes use of various martial art disciplines. It is mainly considered a combination of boxing, wrestling, judo, Brazilian jiu-jitsu, and Muay Thai, all fused together. From time to time, an athlete will transition to the art from another discipline, such as taekwondo or karate, etc. An athlete such as this will have their own noticeable style and would be challenging for an opponent to deal with. Many millions of people now consider this discipline to be the pinnacle of martial arts, while others, perhaps to a lesser degree, consider it a vulgar sport that misses the point of martial arts. What can not be argued is the effectiveness of the discipline in a combat situation.
One of the burning questions answered in this martial arts book...
Was Alexander the Great an MMA fan?
Beyond this book, keep an eye out for my future release on mixed martial arts itself, where I delve deeper into its history, origins and folklore. Sign up to the mailing list to be notified when it is published.
