Summary:

Grappling is an umbrella term that covers disciplines that use submissions, pinning, trapping, holds, throwing, clinches and takedowns, to get the better of an opponent. Many martial arts have the principles of grappling incorporated into them, and without it, some consider them incomplete. Though grappling does not include the art of striking or the use of weapons, there are fighting styles that use grappling along with striking techniques to make the combat more effective. Under the grouping of grappling, you will find arts such as wrestling (and all its subsections), jujutsu, Brazilian jiu-jitsu, and judo, etc. Grappling even has techniques within disciplines that are not considered as grappling, such as clinches in Muay Thai.
