Summary:

Sumo is a reputed Japanese heavyweight wrestling technique. It originated in the period of Tumulus (250–550 CE). However, there have been a lot of changes made to it since, especially during the seventeenth century. Sumo was initially performed as part of worship during festivals to entertain gods. However, from the sixteenth century onwards, there was a drastic change in the way sumo was appreciated. Over time, the status of sumo raised from being a violent, entertaining sport to the national sport of Japan.
