Developed in Korea, tang soo do is a martial art that is a fusion of different ancient fighting techniques commonly found in the traditional fighting arts of subak, Shotokan karate, kung fu, and taekkyeon. It includes sparring and contact sports events, where the contact level is controlled and moderate. The practitioners conclude that sparring events are meant for people to gain a better understanding of the techniques and be mentally prepared to execute focused body maneuvers in stressful situations. It is quite often referred to as soo bahk do.
